In 1771 Archbishop Robinson established Armagh Public Library as part of his plans to establish a university and to improve the city of Armagh . The nucleus of the collection is Archbishop Robinson’s own Library which contains 17th and 18th century books on theology, philosophy, classic and modern literature, voyages, history, medicine and law. In addition, the Library holds work to help with family history research, including:- The Census of Ireland for 1821, 1831, 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881; General Valuation of Rateable Property in Ireland by Richard Griffith, published in Dublin in 1858, covering 22 counties in Ireland; The Ordnance Survey Maps of Ireland for all 32 counties, published in Dublin in 1835. Opening Hours:- Monday to Friday, 10.00am – 1.00pm and 2.00pm – 4.00pm. Other times can be arranged by prior appointment. Advance bookings for group tours are welcome.
